Doug uses his mental emotion to save his friend from comitting suicide. He wins $200 at vegas and spends it on a diamond that might be real or fake. this keeps his friend alive because it gives him reason to stay alive and see if its alive or not. Another reason why they are similar is because on their quest they both have the goal to save or rescue a person close to them. Luke is trying to save Princess Liea, while doug is tyring to save Quinn from suicide.
